Nearly 490,000 applications for registration of regular and youth voters have been received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) since the resumption of sign-up on July 4.

Acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudingco reported on Saturday that as of July 8, they have received 487,628 applications, based on the Nationwide Consolidated Daily Report released by Divina Blas-Perez of the Election and Barangay Affairs Department (ECAD).

The registrants include 302,040 aged 15 to 17 years old; 157,925 aged 18 to 30; and 27,663 aged 31 years old and above.

ECAD also recorded 88,471 applicants for transfer from other cities/municipalities; and 21,270 applications for transfer from within the same city/municipality.

The applications for transfer with reactivation have reached 3,986; applications for transfer with reactivation and correction of entries at 1,323; and applications for transfer with correction of entries at 4,712.

A total of 27,883 likewise applied for reactivation; 6,303 for reactivation with correction of entries; 18,577 for change of names/correction of entries; 58 for inclusion in the Book of Voters; 11 for reinstatement in the List of Voters; and 1,697 for transfer from overseas voting to local.

The registration period will run until July 23.

Applications are accepted in all Office of Election Officers nationwide from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The election activity is being held in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled on December 5. (PNA)
