A health official on Wednesday said Nayong Pilipino in Parañaque City would be the first of the mega vaccination sites to open soon as the government expands its vaccination rollout.

“Yung Nayong Pilipino po na dati ay nakasara, nakausap na po ni (vaccine czar) Secretary Galvez si Secretary Berna (Romulo-Puyat) ng (The Nayong Pilipino which was previously closed, Secretary Galvez already talked with Secretary Berna of the) Department of Tourism and they had an agreement already that we will open it as one of our mega vaccination sites,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online media forum.

Vergeire added members of the private sector also have offered their “big areas that can be used as vaccination sites together with their workforce” as part of their corporate social responsibility.

On Tuesday, Galvez said the mega vaccination sites could accommodate up to 10,000 individuals a day.

Currently, the country only has medium-sized vaccination sites serving 5,000 to 6,000 individuals a day.

Vergeire noted the initial target is 500,000 a day across all the mega vaccination sites.

“Titingnan natin kung itataas pa natin iyan base sa supply at demand, titingnan natin (We’ll see if that needs to be increased based on supply and demand, we’ll see) in the coming days,” she said.

Recognizing that some people crowd in vaccination sites when waiting for their turn, Vergeire reminded the local government units to implement a vaccination schedule.

“This is a possible super spreader event lalo na kung kumpulan yung tao at enclosed ang space ng pagbibigay ng bakuna (especially when people crowd and the space where jabs are given is enclosed),” she said.

“Amin na pong napaalalahanan ang Metro Manila Development Authority at lagi naming fina-flag sa DILG (Department of the Interior Local Government) kapag nakakakita kami ng ganitong (We already reminded the Metro Manila Development Authority and we always flag the DILG when we see these) instances across vaccination sites,” she added.
