A PHP25-million multi-purpose building will soon rise in this capital town that would include a hostel to accommodate visitors.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which is undertaking the project has already started the lay out for the three-storey multi-purpose building in a vacant lot at their municipal trade center, said San Jose de Buenavista Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Officer (MEEDO) Darcy Bungay in an interview on Monday.

“The project will have commercial stalls on the ground floor and hostel on the second and third floor,” he said.

He said the project is an initiative of Antique lone district congresswoman Loren Legarda in 2021 with the DPWH.

He added that the building will connect to the second floor of the soon-to-be-constructed provincial and municipal offices of the Commission on Election (Comelec), which has a separate fund of PHP10 million.

The ground floor of the Comelec building will be used for commercial purposes.

Bungay said the construction of the multi-purpose building will continue within the next 365 days or so.

“The multi-purpose building is necessary because passengers of the public utility vehicles from other provinces would have a place to stay with overnight when they arrive late in the evening in Antique already,” he said.

He said their municipality could also accommodate meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) once they have a convention hall and a place to stay. (PNA)
