Officials of the Ministry of Health–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM) turned over Thursday some PHP67.5 million worth of health support facilities to the province of Basilan.

Dr. Bashary Latiph, BARMM health minister, led the turnover of the newly completed PHP30-million Lamitan District Hospital (LDH) building, the PHP25-million new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) isolation facility, two sea ambulances worth PHP6 million, and a land ambulance worth PHP2.5 million.

“The funding on the LDH alone came from the 2017-2018 health facility enhancement program of the BARMM,” he said in a statement Friday.

He added funding for the Covid-19 facility came from the BARMM’s public works office.

The MOH-BARMM also handed over 300 barangay health worker (BHW) kits worth PHP1.4 million, and cash incentives amounting to PHP2.6 million to the BHWs.

Each BHW kit consists of a laptop, tablet, medical tools, and assorted first aid medicine.

“Take care of the health facilities because we need them for our continuing fight against Covid-19 and other health-related emergencies,” he told Basilan health officials led by LDH chief Dr. Jackie Lou Eisma-Castillo.

He assured Basilan Governor Jim Hataman Salliman and Vice Governor Yusop Alano that the MOH remains in full force to address the needs for quality health care services in the region, especially in this time of the pandemic. (PNA)
