This city’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) inoculation program for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) is gaining headway with the deployment of mobile vaccination teams spearheaded by the City Health Office (CHO).
In an interview on Tuesday, Dr. Fulbert Gillego, CHO chief, said almost half of the master-listed 18,000 elderlies and PWDs have been vaccinated through the inoculation activities that started last week in the barangays.
The program, he noted, aims to avoid congestion at the assigned vaccination centers in malls and at the Legazpi City Convention Center.
Gillego said his office created four teams for the vaccination program, each comprising a doctor, nurses, midwives and other volunteers who are rendering vaccination services to members of the two sectors who could not go to the vaccination centers in urban areas due to their physical conditions and financial constraints.
More than 400 elderlies and PWDs are administered with vaccines every day, he said, noting that each team caters to at least 100 persons from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“Before the start of the vaccination services, we give first medical checkup to the seniors and PWDs in order for them to know their health condition to ensure their safety,” Gillego said.
The mobile vaccination is a program of the CHO and the City Social Welfare and Development Office in partnership with barangay officials to fast-track the inoculation activities and give comfortable vaccination services to the seniors and PWDs, especially those residing in far-flung villages.
