The Makati city government will provide free five-hour internet load per day to 85,000 public pre-school to senior high school students, Mayor Abigail Binay announced Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, Binay said the students are also set to receive “learner’s package” composed of on-the-go (OTG) flash drive, printed education modules, and two reusable face masks.

The OTG flash drive contains digitized learning materials that can be used even without internet connection, which includes videos, illustrations, and interactive exercises developed by the Department of Education (DepEd)-Makati.

The printed modules, meanwhile, could be used by learners without gadgets and internet.

This contains self-directed instructional materials in all learning areas or subjects which will be answered by the students to learn new things.

Students with no available gadgets can complete the exercises from the printed modules.

After answering all exercises, parents are requested to submit the modules to the teacher.

These are apart from the free school uniforms, leather shoes, and school supplies, which students from public schools regularly get each school year.

The Makati government has also introduced digitized lessons and other educational references through the DepEd-Makati learning resources portal which can be accessed anytime by either students or their parents.

The local government will also provide free internet load to public school teachers to help them in their online teaching activities and sessions.

The parents will be provided with a journal containing guidelines on how to help their children with their education at home.

Binay said the education materials are provided to Makatizen students in a bid to help them with their remote education this coming school year.

Earlier, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said once the academic calendar officially opens on August 24, a “safe back-to-school program” will be implemented.

In compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive, the education department has postponed face-to-face classes until a vaccine for coronavirus disease becomes available. (PNA)
