The 143rd birth anniversary of Manuel Luis Quezon on Thursday was marked by the unveiling of a marker at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QCM), where the remains of the country’s second president have been laid to rest.
The city government, through its Facebook page, invited Filipinos to remember the man tagged as the Father of the National Language.
“Ginugunita ngayong araw ang ika-143 anibersaryo ng kapanganakan ni dating pangulong Manuel Luis M. Quezon. Kasabay nito, ipinakita na rin ang biological marker ng dating pangulo na sinaksihan din ng kaniyang pamilya (Today, we commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of former president Manuel Luis Quezon. In line with this, we unveiled the biological marker of the former president, witnessed by his family),” the post read.
Flowers were offered at the Quezon monument, led by Mayor Joy Belmonte, Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, National Historical Commission of the Philippines Executive Director Restituto Aguilar, QC Education Affairs Unit head Aly Medalla, QC Tourism Department Officer-in-Charge Tetta Tirona, and QCM Administrator Zaldy dela Rosa.
Quezon Day is a special non-working holiday in QC and in the provinces of Quezon and Aurora as mandated by Republic Act. No. 6741 of 1989.
It is a working holiday in the rest of the country.
Quezon served as president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944, succeeding Emilio Aguinaldo (1899–1901),
He was also the first Senate president, assuming the post in 1916.
He died of tuberculosis at Saranac Lake, New York while in exile on Aug. 1, 1944 at the age of 65. (PNA)
