Manila City Implements 30% Workforce Due To Covid-19

All government departments, bureaus, and offices under the city government of Manila will have reduced physical working capacity, or 30 percent of its workforce, starting Monday.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso made the announcement late Sunday after conducting an emergency meeting with Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and some key officials about the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) situation in the nation’s capital.

“Babalik tayo sa pagbabawas ng mga tao sa city hall para precautionary measure, and I believe in you na kahit konti lang tayo, makakapag-function tayo efficiently (We will go back to the reduced number of people in the city hall as a precautionary measure, and I believe in you, that even with a minimum number, we can efficiently function),” Domagoso said during the meeting.

Data from the Manila Health Department (MHS) showed that as of Sunday, the number of active cases in Manila is at 1,549 after recording 270 new cases.

There were also 219 new recoveries, bringing to 28,451 the running total. No new deaths were recorded on Sunday.

Exempted from the 30-percent workforce policy are personnel of the six district hospitals, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Department of Public Services, Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, MHS, and Manila Department of Social Welfare.

He also told Manila Police District chief Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco to cancel all scheduled leaves, except medical-related, to address the current situation.

The MPD will deploy SWAT (special weapons and tactics) teams to take care of peace and order.

Domagoso said he will personally conduct random inspections in all 897 barangays in the city as he vowed that he would not hesitate to relieve officials who will be found negligent.

All public markets in Manila will impose a one-entry, one-exit policy.

Meanwhile, Bureau of Permits head Levi Facundo was tasked to inspect the implementation of health protocols in different business establishments while all public markets will impose a one-entry, one-exit policy.

All quarantine facilities will be handled by the Department of Engineering and Public Works to make sure that they are “up and running. (PNA)
