The city government of Makati has intensified its efforts to assist flood-hit Marikina City in its disaster response operations by deploying additional rescue equipment.

Mayor Abigail Binay on Wednesday ordered the Makati LGU to deploy more rescue equipment to augment disaster rehabilitation and restoration efforts in Marikina.

“We understand that our beleaguered neighbor needs all the help it can get to cope with this new crisis,” Binay said. “We hope that in our own small way, we can ease the day-to-day lives of the typhoon victims while they are in temporary shelters.”

Makati has sent another tanker, a penetrator fire truck, pick-up truck RV-13, and mobile water filtration system for Marikina’s disaster response team.

Marikina residents suffered massive flooding due to heavy rains and the rise of the Marikina River’s water level during the onslaught of “Ulysses”.

After the typhoon ravaged Metro Manila on Nov.12, Binay said Makati has immediately mobilized a rescue team composed of nine personnel with two rescue boats to assist Marikeños who were trapped inside their homes due to rising floodwaters.

The city government also deployed a search and rescue vehicle and an ambulance.

Apart from rescue and clearing operations augmentation, Makati also extended its “mobile kitchen” to help feed families staying in evacuation centers.

The Makati LGU also provided a mobile water filtration system, which is capable of turning ordinary water into safe, clean, and potable drinking water, to make sure residents get an adequate supply of drinking water.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro earlier declared a state of calamity in the city to fast-track relief and rehabilitation efforts. (PNA)
