A magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted Sarangani on Thursday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake struck 22 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Maasim at 11:38 p.m.

It had a depth of 43 km.

Intensity 5 was felt in Glan, Maasim, Alabel, Kiamba and Malapatan, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato; General Santos City; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; and Intensity 4 in Jose Abad Santos, Malita, and Sarangani, Davao Occidental; Koronadal City; Polomolok and Tampakan, South Cotabato.

Intensity 3 was also reported in Davao City; Maco, and Mawab, Davao de Oro; Digos City; Cotabato City; and Intensity 2 in Zamboanga City.

The following instumental intensities were also recorded: Intensity 6 in General Santos City; Intensity 5 in Alabel, Kiamba and Malungon, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato; Intensity 4 in Koronadal City; and Intensity 1 in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

Aftershocks and damages are possible from the quake, Phivolcs reported. (PNA)
