Sen. Joel Villanueva declared his support to execute the provisions of the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers in high hopes to bring out the potential of Filipino educators.

Fresh from the session break, Senators received the teachers who have paid a visit on Monday to demand for the full implementation of the Republic Act 4670.

“As Vice-Chair of the Committee on Basic Education and Chairman of the Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education, we are very happy that teachers trooped to Senate on the first day of our session to call for the full implementation of Republic Act 4670 or the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers,” Villanueva said.

According to Villanueva, the full implementation of the Magna Carta will unlock the limitless capacities of public school education in the country.

“With more than 800,000 teachers in the country, we believe on their numerical potential to help the country move forward. However, it’s only possible when the state takes good care of their socio-economic status,” the senator said.

“That’s why we will support an inquiry on the implementation of the Magna Carta and submit legislative proposals to improve their working and living conditions,” he added.

The Magna Carta for Public School Teachers is a special law enacted in 1966. However, most of the provisions of this 53-year old law remain unacted upon until now which include standardized competitive salaries, learning conducive workload, and a well-adjusted promotions and career path.
