The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to open four more routes for traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJs) in Metro Manila on October 30.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, it said a total of 507 TPUJs will soon ply the Parang-Recto, Parang-Stop & Shop via Aurora Boulevard, SSS Village via Aurora Blvd. and España Blvd., and Libertad-Pinagbarilan routes as prescribed in its Memorandum Circular (MC) 2020-064.

“Maaaring bumiyahe ang mga roadworthy PUVs [public utility vehicles] na may valid at existing Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) o Application for Extension of Validity, at kinakailangang nakarehistro sa Personal Passenger Insurance Policy (PPIP) ang bawat unit sa mga rutang nakapaloob sa MC (Roadworthy PUVs are allowed to resume service if they have a valid and existing CPC or application for extension of validity, and PUVs in the MC 20202-064 must each be registered with a PPIP),” the LTFRB said.

Instead of a special permit, it said a QR code will be issued to operators to be printed and posted on their PUV.

It reminded PUV operators, drivers, and passengers alike to follow the “7 Commandments” on public transportation—wearing of face mask and shield at all times, no talking, no eating, proper ventilation of the PUV, regular disinfection of the PUV, rejecting passengers with Covid-19 symptoms, and to always follow the “one-seat-apart” rule.
