The Department of Agriculture-Davao (DA-11) distributed PHP5.9 million worth of agricultural inputs to farmers in Kapalong, Davao del Norte on Thursday, targeting those affected by the trough of the tropical low-pressure area and shear line last year.

In a statement Friday, DA-11 regional technical director for operations Marie Ann Constantino said the aid came from the agency’s quick response fund (QRF).

The assistance includes PHP4.5 million worth of inorganic fertilizers, PHP1.2 million worth of hybrid yellow corn seeds, and PHP210,750 worth of lowland vegetables.

The Kapalong town government and the Provincial Agriculturist Office received the inputs and distributed them to the beneficiaries.

“Rest assured that DA will continue to work closely with the local government units to deliver prompt assistance for the rehabilitation and recovery of calamity-affected farmers,” Constantino said.

The DA only uses the QRF as a backup fund for disasters that may happen during the year, mainly to provide assistance, relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and other services to areas hit by disasters. (PNA)
