The Legazpi City Hospital (LCH) here will soon serve more patients once the expansion of the third floor is complete.

Mayor Noel Rosal said Thursday there would be three additional operating rooms and 60 beds.

The hospital will help decongest the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, which caters to patients from the entire Albay and neighboring provinces, such as Sorsogon and Catanduanes.

Rosal also reminded the public to always follow health protocols wherever they are in the city.

“Always wear your mask and follow health protocols because your safety is our concern,” he said.

Dr. Jose Relacion, LCH administrator, said in a text message that they are finalizing the floor plan of the expansion project.

“The meeting will finalize the total number of operating rooms, additional beds, and additional rooms for additional services,” he said.

The LCH currently has 25 beds, with eight allocated for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients.

The laboratory, operating and labor rooms, X-ray section, intensive care unit, emergency and recovery rooms, as well as the dental clinic and pharmacy, are located on the ground floor.

The male and female wards, including the pediatric rooms and office of doctors and other personnel, are on the second floor.

The hospital also has a fire protection pump and medical waste holding room, material recovery facility, and a placenta pit.

The LCH is located in Barangay Bitano on a 3,000-square meter lot owned by the city government. It opened in 2018 after a three-year construction worth PHP120 million.

In February, it was temporarily shut down after one employee contracted Covid-19. (PNA)
