Photographer Reveal! Award-winning actor John Lloyd Cruz makes a big screen comeback, but he will not be the camera’s focus this time.

Cinemalaya, on Wednesday, revealed through their official Facebook page that the actor had joined the Cinemalaya Independent Films Festival as its official photographer. Together with the post are sneak peek photos of John Lloyd Cruz doing the stint.

“Every year, nag-iimbita ang Cinemalaya ng photographer para kumuha ng portraits ng mga filmmakers na kasali sa kompetisyon. This year, sa pambihirang pagkakataon, isang aktor ang humawak ng camera para kumuha ng larawan ng mga direktor. Yes, it’s the big swap we didn’t see coming!” the caption read.

Cruz spent two days taking portraits of the 18 filmmakers joining the Film Festival. The photos taken will be displayed during the opening of the Cinemalaya Film Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on August 5, 2022.

“Interesting ng idea na ang isang actor naman ang ilalagay sa likod ng camera. Excited to see kung paano nakikita ni JLC ang isang director,” Xeph Suarez, one of the filmmakers under the Short Film Program, said in another Facebook post uploaded by the film organizers. More photos of the actor were uploaded, this time showing him working with the subjects.

Cinemalaya marks its 18th anniversary this year with the theme “CINEMALAYA 18: BREAKING THROUGH THE NOISE.” Eleven full-length films and twelve short films made it into the cut for the competition to compete for the Balanghai trophy.

Also, after two years of online screening due to the pandemic, Cinemalaya 2022 is back for live on-site screenings.

The Cinemalaya Film Festival 2022 will be held at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo Main Theatre. The event is presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Cinemalaya Foundation Inc.
