The city’s Public Safety and Transportation Management (PSTMO) announced on Friday that vendors will not be allowed to sell flowers on sidewalks and cemetery roads, barely a week before the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day commemoration.

In an interview, PSTMO head Jeck Colu said designated areas for flower vendors are only inside public plazas and public markets.

Aside from markets and plazas, Conlu said a private property on Iznart Street will accommodate vendors in the city proper.

“There will be no selling of flowers in our sidewalks and roads and entrances in public or private cemeteries,” he said.

The PSTMO has started clearing the roads leading to the cemeteries, in compliance with Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas’ order to decongest roads in places of convergence during the Undas holidays.

“We will not allow those who put up structures and sell flowers in cemeteries,” he said.

The advisory was relayed to around 500 total flower vendors for them to also prepare their commodities.

The PSTMO chief said he will meet with the vendors next week “to finalize everything.”

He also reminded vendors to pay for the necessary permits.

A special permit from the Iloilo City Business Permits and Licensing Office costs PHP200 while barangay permit costs PHP100.

He urged vendors to report to the PSTMO any excess amount being charged on them.

The vendors will be allowed to set up on October 29 and start selling from October 30 to November 2, he said. (PNA)
