The Local Committee Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (LCAT-VAWC) in Piddig, Ilocos Norte has been recognized as highly functional, reflecting its strong performance in preventing human trafficking, protecting survivors and promoting the rights and welfare of women and children.

The recognition from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Ilocos Norte highlighted the committee’s effective implementation of programs focused on prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership.

“This achievement reflects the municipality’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of women, children and other vulnerable sectors through effective governance, strong collaboration and dedicated public service,” the municipal government said in a statement on Tuesday.

Through coordinated efforts, the committee has strengthened public awareness campaigns, improved case referral systems, enhanced support services for survivors and reinforced collaboration among government agencies, law enforcement, civil society organizations and community stakeholders.

“Based on the Provincial Inter-agency Monitoring Task Force table validation, we are pleased to inform you that your local government unit was assessed high functional with a score of 98 out of 110,” DILG Ilocos Norte Director Reggie Colisao said in her letter addressed to Piddig Mayor Georgina Guillen.

Local officials attributed the achievement to the dedication of committee members and partner institutions in addressing cases of trafficking and violence through timely interventions, capacity-building activities and community engagement.

They emphasized that a coordinated and proactive approach is essential in safeguarding vulnerable sectors from abuse, exploitation, and violence.

The committee also continues to conduct information and education campaigns to help communities recognize the signs of trafficking and abuse, encourage reporting of incidents and promote respect for the rights and dignity of women and children.

Under the Piddig Cares Quick Response Action Center, which operates 24/7 at the ground floor of the town hall, residents are assured of immediate support in times of emergency.

The municipal government reaffirmed its commitment to sustain the committee’s programs, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and ensure that survivors have access to legal assistance, psychosocial support, healthcare and other essential services.

The public is also enjoined to remain vigilant and work with authorities to prevent trafficking and all forms of violence against women and children. (PNA)
