Double standards have emerged ever since NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas celebrated his “extraordinary birthday party” or the so-called mañanita that gathered at least 50 attendees during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

An investigation was called for. However, until now, we have yet to determine the results of it.

Following the controversy, 8 protesters at UP Cebu were arrested while rallying against the Anti-Terror Bill on June 5. Reports say that they have been detained for failing to comply to physical distancing.

They were released without bail on June 8.

Despite that, this incident did not sit well with some Filipinos, citing that Sinas has not even been sanctioned yet for the numerous violations committed at his mañanita.

Netizens then picked up that perhaps the reason why they have been experiencing injustice is because they have been using the wrong one all along?

On June 12, 2020, we commemorate the 122nd Independence Day of the Philippines. It is a commemoration for the historical moment when the country has finally declared its independence from the 333-year Spanish colonization.

While the country attempts to observe the holiday with restrictions brought by the community quarantine, some Filipinos refuse to see these as hindrances for them to not speak out about what they think Philippines deserves.

Whether you are in the comfort of your home or outdoors, let your voice be heard. Here are the gatherings or ‘mañanitas’ where you can participate in on Independence Day (Don’t forget to follow the physical distancing guidelines.):
