The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday called on local government units (LGUs) to extend the necessary assistance to activities in preparation for the full implementation of face-to-face classes in November.

In a statement, DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. also encouraged LGUs to convene their respective various local councils and conduct the necessary preparations, including building inspections to ensure the quality and structural integrity of school facilities.

“With Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) still posing a threat to our students, LGUs are expected to continue the strict enforcement of the minimum public health standards (MPHS) and the Covid-19 pediatric vaccination campaign as we gear towards 100 percent conduct of face-to-face classes. There is nothing more important than prevention as we expect the influx of millions of students going back to classes,” Abalos said.

Abalos also directed the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and other law enforcement units of LGUs down to participate and provide continuous support to Brigada Eskwela initiatives and ensure that the road networks leading to schools are secure, clean and free from any obstructions and hindrances which may pose danger to and deter the mobility of students.

“It is only through a united front that we can successfully bring back our students to their schools, hence, we must work and cooperate in synergy to make their back-to-school experience safe, peaceful and orderly,” said Abalos.

On Tuesday, the DepEd said it has provided ample time for schools and learners to adjust to the mandatory face-to-face learning setup on Nov. 2.

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte also said over 3 million students have enrolled in schools on the first day of enrolment for the school year 2022-2023.

She also said they are considering the holding of mobile Covid-19 vaccination in schools. (PNA)
