The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” has affected 1,931 families, or 5,663 individuals, across parts of Davao Region, the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Wednesday.

In data sent to the Philippine News Agency, DSWD 11 (Davao Region) reported that it has already extended PHP4.1 million worth of assistance to affected families.

The agency added that 308 houses were destroyed and 275 were damaged.

In Davao del Sur, the municipalities of Kiblawan and Sulop reported a combined 359 families, or 1,173 individuals, affected.

“No internally displaced persons or damaged houses were recorded,” the agency added.

DSWD-11 also distributed 72 family food packs in Kiblawan and 286 family food packs in Sulop, amounting to PHP173,316.

In Davao Occidental, the municipality of Jose Abad Santos was the hardest hit, with 1,539 families, or 4,391 individuals, affected.

The town recorded 293 houses that were destroyed and 275 that were damaged.

Relief assistance included 1,200 family food packs on July 14, a total of 50 family tents on July 17, and an additional 3,200 family food packs, 79 family tents, 500 hygiene kits, and 10 maternity kits on July 21.

The total aid provided in Jose Abad Santos reached PHP4 million.

In Sarangani, 33 families, or 99 individuals, were affected, with 15 houses destroyed.

“DSWD-11 continues to coordinate with local government units to ensure timely delivery of food packs, tents, hygiene kits, and other essentials to affected communities,” the agency added. (PNA)
