Senator Christopher “Bong” Go visited and provided assistance to victims of the series of earthquakes in two hardest-hit villages here and neighboring Makilala town.

Go, accompanied by actor Robin Padilla, distributed assistance such as food packs to more than 4,000 people in Barangay Ilomavis here who fled seven sub-villages following the magnitude 6.6 and 6.5 earthquakes that came on October 29 and October 31, respectively.

Go arrived on a big bike shortly before noon and the people cheered as he entered the center of Ilomavis where thousands of residents sought shelter due to landslides and aftershocks in their communities.

“I came over because I want to help, nagmamalasakit po (I just care for you),” Go told the quake victims.

“I came here with food packs for you and financial aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development,” he added in Filipino.

Kidapawan City is one of the four areas in North Cotabato hardest-hit by the recent tremors; the three other areas are Tulunan, M’lang, and Makilala.

Aside from cash and relief assistance, Go also assured the residents he will work with the National Housing Authority to speed up the distribution of housing aid to victims whose houses were damaged by the quake.

Go later directed the village officials to ensure that the quake victims are attended to by the government.

He then moved to Barangay Malasila, Makilala, to also distribute aid to some 3,000 quake-affected families. (NP/PNA)
