Abel Tesfaye, popularly known as The Weeknd, claimed the title of “most popular artist in the world,” granted by the Guinness Book of Records.

As announced by the organization, the 33-year-old Canadian superstar was said to be way off from other artists on the charts by having Shakira with 81.6 million, Ariana Grande with 80.6 million, Taylor Swift with 80.2 million, and many other hitmakers in the music industry.

With almost 30 million listeners above others, The Weeknd and Michael Jackson are the two solo male musicians who stand above the rest.

The Weeknd has already been acknowledged by Guinness World Records in 2016 by winning the most-streamed album, entitled Beauty Behind The Madness, fronted by his masterpiece Can’t Feel My Face, and also having a hot streak of being in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male musician.

In the interval, his song Blinding Lights from After Hours, his fourth album, prevailed at the top music streaming app with a total of 3.6 billion times played as of February 2023, surpassing Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You, which had topped the chart since September 2017 with 3.4 billion streams.

The Weeknd already won four awards at the 2023 Juno Awards held in his home country, Canada, including Juno Awards for bagging both artist and songwriter of the year for the fourth time; single of the year for the third time, and pop album of the year.
