Former Vice President Leni Robredo led the formal launch of the Angat Buhay, a non-governmental organization (NGO) under its corporate name Angat Pinas Inc.

The organization was launched with a two-day street art festival at what used to be the campaign headquarters in Quezon City. Robredo will sit as chairperson of the Angat Buhay NGO as she continues the programs started at her office when she was vice president.

The establishment of the organization was driven by thousands of people who showed up and even volunteered during the campaign and is poised to become the largest and widest volunteer network in the country. She also believes that Angat Buhay is the perfect platform for harnessing the energies of her supporters into things that are productive.

The NGO will primarily have four pillars, like what the Angat Buhay program had in the past six years. They will be health (Angat Kalusugan), education (Angat Edukasyon), disaster relief and rehabilitation, and community engagement.

It will also have its own phone application where interested individuals can donate. Donations are categorized into three categories: patron-based donations that will be done on a regular basis; project-based donations where its funds will be solely dedicated to a certain project; and the disaster relief fund, which will collect funds for future disasters.

During the height of the COVID-19 crisis, through Robredo’s Angat Buhay program, she managed to provide free transportation service and dormitories for frontline workers. Her office also provided vaccines to market vendors and drivers, and free consultation to those in need. Angat Buhay also provided free dormitories to children who live far away from their schools. She is also one of the fastest responders to bring basic necessities to areas affected by typhoons, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes.

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved the corporate name Angat Pinas Inc. instead of Angat Buhay since there is an already approved entity that has been registered long ago, but Robredo said that the program of the organization will still be called Angat Buhay.
