First Lady Liza Marcos on Monday reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable sectors, particularly senior citizens, as she joined another rice distribution initiative in San Juan City.
Held at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City, the activity benefited thousands of senior citizens through rice assistance funded under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).
This marks the second week of the First Lady’s “Mula sa Puso Para sa Pamilya” initiative that brought rice aid to thousands of vulnerable families in Metro Manila.
A total of 8,898 senior citizens in San Juan City are beneficiaries of the program.
During Monday’s distribution, 4,400 recipients received the second tranche of assistance, while the remaining beneficiaries are scheduled to receive theirs later this week.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the First Lady expressed gratitude to the people of San Juan and recalled her personal connection to the city, noting that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was born there.
“Totoo po ang sinabi ni Mayor. Dito ipinanganak ang aking asawa. Noong COVID, nandito kami at dito rin po ako naturukan ng bakuna. Kinabahan ako noon, pero napakabait ng inyong mayor (What the mayor said is true. My husband was born here. During the COVID pandemic, we were here and I also received my vaccination here. I was nervous then, but your mayor was very kind),” she said.
The First Lady said it was meaningful to return to San Juan years later, this time to provide assistance to its residents.
“That was four years ago, and here I am now giving back to all of you. Grabe ang mundo, umiikot talaga (Life really comes full circle),” she added.
She thanked the city government for partnering with the national government in bringing services closer to communities and called on Filipinos to remain united.
The First Lady also spent time interacting with several senior citizens, listening to their stories and asking about their well-being.
