Fellows of the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) from the Philippines have arrived safely in South Korea.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines’ Facebook post on Monday did not mention the number of Filipino scholars but invited more to apply for the program despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

The Embassy commended the GKS fellows for their “efforts and dedication” and emphasized the importance of education even during the health crisis.

“We also reaffirm our commitment to the importance of education and empowering youth and further solidifying future-oriented people-to-people ties through research programs and training. The Embassy once again wishes them a safe and rewarding stay in Korea,” the Embassy said.

Application for the 2022 GKS for undergraduate degrees is open until October 7 via https://overseas.mofa.go.kr/ph-en/brd/m_3272/list.do.

The Korean government opened 220 scholarship slots for Bachelor (160) and Associate (60) degrees for students under age 25, in good health, and holder of a High School diploma or expected to graduate by Feb. 28, 2022).

This GKS undergraduate scholarship will cover full tuition fee, return air ticket, settlement allowance (200,000 Korean Won or about PHP8,400), monthly allowance (900,000 Korean Won or about PHP38,000), health insurance, language training fee, degree completion grant, and monthly allowance for Korean proficiency grants (100,000 Korean Won or about PHP4,200)

The GKS grantee should pass the first selection process set by the Korean Embassy of the country of origin. (PNA)
