Twelve persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Santa Cruz District Jail are undergoing electrical skills training aimed at enhancing employability and supporting rehabilitation efforts, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.

The training, which started on April 20, is being facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in partnership with the Buyabod School of Arts and Trades.

It also includes one former PDL and 22 BJMP interns, who are participating alongside the jail-based trainees.

The program covers basic electrical installation and maintenance, providing hands-on experience and technical competencies aligned with industry standards.

BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson Joefrie Anglo said the initiative is part of the agency’s continuing efforts to equip PDLs with practical skills for reintegration into society.

“By giving them access to technical training, we are preparing them for productive lives after release and reducing the likelihood of reoffending,” Anglo said.

Upon completion of the 25-day course, participants will be eligible to receive a National Certificate (NC) II from TESDA, a recognized qualification that may open employment opportunities in the electrical industry.

The BJMP continues to strengthen its rehabilitation and skills development programs through partnerships with government agencies and training institutions, underscoring its commitment to restorative justice and community reintegration. (PNA)
