The Department of Trade and Industry in Davao Region (DTI-11) is urging consumers to prioritize safety this holiday season by ensuring that the Christmas lights they purchase carry the Philippine Standard (PS) or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) marks.

In a statement on Friday, DTI-11 regional director Romeo Castañaga said both the PS and ICC stickers serve as proof that the product has undergone proper inspection and testing, guaranteeing compliance with Philippine safety standards.

“A safe Christmas is a joyful Christmas. By choosing certified products, families can light up their holidays with confidence,” he said.

The Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) certifies that regulated Christmas lights, permanently connected in series or series-parallel on flexible conductors designed for main power supply, meet strict requirements.

The PS Mark is issued to local manufacturers after factory audits and product testing, confirming ongoing compliance with Philippine safety and quality standards.

On the other hand, the ICC sticker is granted to importers for each shipment after thorough inspection and testing, ensuring imported products meet the required standards.

DTI has updated its official list of approved Christmas lights for 2025, including PS/ICC numbers, manufacturer details, and product descriptions.

DTI continuously enforces mandatory certification for manufacturers and importers nationwide, monitors and enforces product standards law, and conducts orientation sessions with retailers to ensure only certified products are sold.

“Your family’s well-being is non-negotiable. Do not compromise safety for small savings—invest in certified products for a bright, worry-free holiday,” Castañaga said. (PNA)
