Additional materials for temporary shelters were sent to the typhoon-affected residents in Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte.

In a statement Monday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga (DSWD -13) said non-food items (NFIs) needed for temporary shelters and other basic needs were shipped to Siargao.

“A total of 3,368 NFIs were sent to Siargao Island on Sunday that will serve as additional materials for residents whose houses were destroyed by Typhoon Odette last December,” the DSWD-13 said.

The NFIs consisted of 628 laminated sacks, 700 family tents 1,406 sleeping tents, 1,406 sleeping kits, and 634 family kits.

The NFIs will be distributed in the towns of San Benito, Burgos, Socorro, General Luna, Pilar, Dapa, and Sta. Monica, the agency added.

The DSWD-13 also pointed out that the quantities and specifications of the NFIs were based on the data provided by the local government units (LGUs) on the island.

“The distribution of the newly-delivered NFIs will be subject to the discretion of the concerned LGUs, the agency said. (PNA)
