Humanitarian assistance worth PHP90.88 million has reached Cagayan Valley residents affected by the series of typhoons in recent weeks.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development–Region 2, in a social media post, said 195,260 families in the region were affected by Severe Tropical Storm Nika (international name Toraji), Typhon Ofel (Usagi), and Super Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi) as of noontime Tuesday.

The victims are from 1,433 villages of the region’s five provinces — Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.

Dome 5,615 families, composed of 18,638 individuals, are still in evacuation centers; while 11,382 families or 42,468 individuals are sheltered in houses of relatives or friends.

As of 10 a.m., there are PHP84.29 million worth of food and non-food relief items and PHP3 million standby funds available, DSWD-Region 2 said.

As of noontime, the regional office said it has distributed 143,551 family food packs amounting to PHP87.82 million.

Distributed non-food packs reached 1,141, amounting to PHP2.87 million.

Some 2,111 pieces of bottled water worth PHP138,957 were also given to the calamity victims.

“The Department continues to coordinate with local governments in affected areas to ensure that all the victims will get immediate support,” the social media post said in Filipino.

In terms of damaged houses, 554 were wreaked while 8,872 were partially damaged. (PNA)
