Since its deployment the day after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck General Santos City and the nearby provinces on June 8, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Caraga (DSWD-13) mobile kitchen and staff have served hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Glan, Sarangani.

On Monday morning, DSWD-13 personnel provided hot meals to 195 IDPs staying at Glan Central Integrated SPED Center.

“The provision of hot meals was facilitated in collaboration with the DSWD Field Office Davao,” the DSWD-13 said in a statement.

On Sunday, about 1,000 IDPs were also provided with lunch by DSWD-13 personnel through its mobile kitchen inside the tent city in Glan.

“The agency will continue to provide the needed support to the IDPs as they begin to rebuild their lives from the destruction of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake,” the agency said.

A day after the earthquake, the DSWD-13 dispatched two mobile storage units, a mobile kitchen with a support team, and its quick-response team to Sarangani province.

Last week, the agency and the Mindanao Disaster Resource Center in Butuan City also sent 20,000 family food packs, 380 water filtration kits, 289 family clothing kits, 450 sleeping kits and 87 family tents to IDPs. (PNA)
