The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) aims to complete the construction of the San Agustin Bridge in Arayat, Pampanga before the holiday season.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency expects to wrap up construction within two months on the project, which has been stalled for nearly eight years.

“We are confident that this bridge will finally be passable before Christmas, after nine years (of delay). This is proof that it can be done if we just work together,” Dizon said in an interview during an inspection of the project site on Friday, where he was accompanied by provincial and department officials.

“Funding for this is fully secured; it will be completed before Christmas.”

Dizon said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered the completion of long-stalled projects to ensure the public can benefit from them and to alleviate the traffic congestion that residents and motorists have long endured.

“Once the bridge is completed, the ones who will benefit are (not) only Kapampangans but also those traveling to Nueva Ecija, as they pass through this route,” he said.

“Thousands of motorists will benefit from it.” (PNA)
