Tourists visiting Antique will not only enjoy seeing the natural attractions of the province but also get the chance to taste its popular local dishes.

Antique Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (APTCAO) consultant Celestino Dalumpines IV said in an interview on Tuesday that the Department of Tourism is holding a series of Community-Based Tourism Kulinarya Workshops in the province.

In partnership with the Offices of Senator Loren Legarda and Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda and the provincial government, the training started earlier this year in Libertad, Tobias Fornier, Belison, and San Jose de Buenavista, and on Feb. 1 to 2 for food handlers from the Municipality of San Remigio.

It was conducted in Barangay Aningalan, known as the “Summer capital of Antique.”

“The workshop is being conducted among the resort and restaurant owners and other food handlers in the municipalities so they could serve their local dishes such as porbida or native chicken with alupidan leaves to their tourist visitors,” he said.

Dalumpines said the workshop not only provides a memorable experience but also helps in preserving the traditional culinary heritage of Antique.

“Observance of safety in food preparation, food service, and plating are also being taught during the workshop,” he said.

He added that other municipalities could also request the workshop to enable them to provide tourists with a holistic experience. (PNA)
