The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Surigao del Sur provided temporary jobs and skills training to 10,674 residents under its TUPAD program in the second half of 2025.

DOLE-Surigao del Sur said in a statement on Tuesday that it paid PHP46.5 million in wages for 10 days to 15 days of community work, such as clean-up drives and gardening.

Workers earned PHP4,530 for 10 days or PHP6,525 for 15 days.

“The services have contributed to environmental protection, sanitation, and the general improvement of public spaces within their respective barangays,” it said.

Beneficiary “Dominador,” 53, of Tandag City, said the pay was a big help for his family after 15 days of coastal clean-up.

Another, “Josephine,” 36, of Tago town, thanked DOLE for the skills training received during the work period.

Through a TESDA partnership, beneficiaries learned rug making, massage, napkin folding, and pastillas making.

“I was able to learn rug making, and now my family wants to venture into this livelihood opportunity,” she said. (PNA)
