The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has opened more than 2,700 slots for its Government Internship Program (GIP) in the Ilocos Region this year, giving young individuals a chance to gain hands-on experience in public service by working with state-run agencies and local government units (LGUs).

Of the total number of available internship slots, over 500 are in Ilocos Norte, over 200 in Ilocos Sur, over 500 in La Union, and over 1,500 in Pangasinan, DOLE Ilocos Region information officer Jenny Mapile, said in a phone interview on Wednesday.

She said interns will work for three to six months and receive a daily stipend equivalent to the regional minimum wage of PHP468.

Interested applicants may apply through their LGU’s Public Employment Services Office (PESO) or the nearest DOLE office.

GIP is a component of KABATAAN 2000, under Executive Order (EO) no. 139 s.1993 and DOLE Administrative Order No. 260-15, aimed at providing young workers, particularly the poor, the opportunity to hone their potentials in public service.

Applicants must be 18 to 30 years old, with at least a high school diploma. Exceptions may be granted in areas affected by disasters or other extraordinary circumstances. (PNA)
