The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique is urging the support of the 18 local government units (LGUs) in the province for the June 1-5 Brigada Eskwela.

“LGUs may support DepEd in minor repairs and maintenance of schools,” said Dr. Roselyn Abuela, DepEd Antique Partnerships Focal Person, in an interview on Tuesday.

She said there are schools needing painting or minor repairs for roofing and classroom doors.

LGUs may also deploy their beneficiaries under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged (TUPAD) workers to help in the Brigada, she added.

Abuela said their central office has a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Labor and Employment to deploy TUPAD workers in public schools. They could help clean and sanitize classrooms and school grounds, repair school fixtures, do landscaping, beautification, and other activities.

Meanwhile, the Antique provincial board during its regular session on Monday approved a resolution urging all LGUs, national government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders to actively support and participate in the annual school maintenance week.

A separate resolution also requested the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and other concerned agencies to conduct a province-wide school monitoring activity to ensure the safe, orderly, and smooth opening of classes for the school year 2026-2027.

DepEd supervises 610 public schools in Antique, which are expected to welcome around 151,000 learners this school year. (PNA)
