The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) 11 (Davao Region) turned over 25 modular housing units worth PHP4.3 million to families affected by last year’s earthquake in this town on Wednesday.

DHSUD-11 Director Norman Doral said the temporary housing units, which cost PHP175,000 each, are now completed and ready for occupancy.

“Some of the beneficiaries are already here, checking their keys. We’re happy they finally have a place to live comfortably after several months,” he said.

Doral said families can use the modular units until their areas are declared safe for habitation.

“They can still acquire permanent shelter. The Office of Civil Defense and the National Housing Authority also have projects that may provide funding for permanent housing,” he added.

“This project shows how the national government, headed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., worked hand in hand to deliver assistance. In times of emergency, despite the processes, we ensure service reaches the people.”

He explained that modular housing is designed for emergency use and temporary shelter.

“It takes time to build concrete houses, and tents are uncomfortable. Modular housing provides a more livable option,” he said.

Beneficiaries Predeswinda Magtana and Miriam Añora expressed gratitude to the President for the assistance.

Magtana shared that her house was wrecked during the October 2025 quake.

“After the earthquake, we only used a tent and makeshift beds. This time, we can finally sleep comfortably,” she said. (PNA)
