The city government here approved the Davao Doctors Hospital’s (DDH) request for its homecare program for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) positive patients in the wake of a surge in infections.

Mayor Sara Duterte conveyed the approval of the request to DDH medical director, Dr. Ronald Tangente in a letter dated Sept. 7 but was made public Wednesday.

In her letter, Duterte underscored the need to further implement response strategies to address the Covid-19 surge “as hospitals are currently overrun by the increasing number of patients every day.”

Duterte also said she hopes to continue working together with the medical institution and count on its support in battling the pandemic.

As of Tuesday, the city logged 327 new Covid-19 cases for a total of 7,018 active cases. Just this week, the city got the highest single-day number of cases at 586.

The DDH, meanwhile, said the homecare program also is to augment efforts amid the surge of Covid-19 cases that continues to overwhelm the city’s healthcare facilities.

“Details and mechanics of the DDH Home Care Program will be posted soon on our official social media channels,” the DDH said on its official Facebook page. (PNA)
