The city government has released PHP6.6 million in financial assistance to communities in Cebu and Davao Oriental affected by recent earthquakes and typhoons.

Alfredo Baloran, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said in an interview on Wednesday that PHP3.9 million was donated to Cebu, while PHP2.7 million was delivered to Davao Oriental.

Baloran personally turned over the aid to Cebu on Sept. 30. Cebu’s provincial government received PHP1 million, Bogo City got PHP500,000, and eight municipalities each received PHP300,000.

He also delivered PHP2.7 million to Davao Oriental following the destructive magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes on Oct. 10.

Baloran emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging the public to take earthquake and flood drills seriously.

“We have to take earthquake and flood drills seriously, and follow advisories on preemptive evacuation,” he said. (PNA)
