Davao City was ranked the third safest city in Southeast Asia in 2024 behind Chiang Mai in Thailand, and Singapore, according to crowdsourced platform Numbeo.

The Safety Index that utilizes user-contributed data evaluates cities based on crime rates, police efficiency and residents’ perceptions of safety.

Other cities in the top 10 were Penang, Malaysia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Makati, Philippines; Bangkok, Thailand; Iloilo, Philippines; Pattaya, Thailand; and Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Last year, Davao City ranked second with a safety index of 72.4. In 2022, it also ranked third with a safety index of 71.6.

Cebu City in Cebu province and National Capital Region’s Quezon City and Manila ranked 11th, 17th and 18th, respectively.

The Davao City Police Office said in a statement Monday that it is committed to ensuring safety and security while acknowledging the support of village officials, residents and the local government. (PNA)
