The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and placed the city under “blue alert” for the 88th Araw ng Dabaw celebrations, which run from March 1 to 16.

In a statement Monday, the CDRRMO said the blue alert status aims to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors participating in the festivities. The alert level enhances disaster preparedness, response capabilities and resource allocation to address potential emergencies.

“The alert status increases the need for proactive disaster preparedness and response as well as resource augmentation,” the agency said.

To maintain order, 8,369 public safety and security personnel will be deployed throughout the celebration. On March 16, some 4,000 security officers will be assigned to secure the “Parada Dabawenyo” (Parade of Davaoeños).

During a send-off ceremony, Mayor Sebastian Duterte emphasized the importance of vigilance and professionalism among security forces.

“The success of the Araw ng Dabaw celebration relies not only on the participation of our people but also on your unceasing commitment and dedication to safeguarding Dabawenyos and the city’s visitors,” Duterte said in a statement delivered Public Safety and Security Office head Angel Sumagaysay.

The security cluster includes the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Fire Protection, National Bureau of Investigation, and Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The CDRRMO urged the public to cooperate with authorities and remain vigilant to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration. (PNA)
