As part of the preparations for the Ironman 70.3 in August, an official said Monday that a walk-through and ocular inspection has been conducted at the Davao City Coastal Road, spanning the Matina Times Beach to the Bago Aplaya segment going to Coronon, Sta. Cruz.

In an interview, Michael Denton Aportadera, officer-in-charge of the Davao City Sports Development Division, said the city government conducted the walk-through with partners and organizers to ensure that the venue for the Ironman 70.3 is “safe and secure for both participants and spectators.”

“Since the new venue will be at the coastal area, the Coastal Road Area, a walk-through is required for the entire team involved in the upcoming Ironman, this is to ensure that preparations that we will be implementing fit the venue since it is new, unlike in the past hosting of the Davao City of the Ironman wherein the old venue is already equipped with building and structures necessary for the event,” Aportadera explained.

He also vowed that the city government has ensured that the race will be “one of the best experiences for the participants and spectators.”

The Aug. 8 to 11 half Ironman race covers a total distance of 113 kilometers (km) or 70.3 miles — 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run.
