Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) scare has also taken its toll on the local aquaculture industry.

Salazar said that local exporters of lobsters, crayfish and other seafood that have been supplying markets in China have halted shipments due to the spread of Covid-19 in that country.

“It is the Chinese that is importing these products from this city, but our local exporters are now affected since the coronavirus started from Wuhan in China,” Salazar said.

The mayor said that the plaque brought by Covid-19 has affected almost all sectors such as airlines, hotels, restaurants, among others.

Salazar sees the need to strengthen medical measures in the event the dreaded virus reaches this city.

She said that the representatives of the Philippine Medical Association have identified the Mindanao Central Sanitarium General Hospital in Barangay Pasobolong, this city, as the treatment facility for Covid-19 patients.

“The city government is taking the lead, thus the need to purchase the needed equipment like the thermal scanners, masks, and other gadgets in order to be prepared,” she said.

She called the City Health Office and Department of Health to provide education on health and sanitation as well as health awareness to the public such as the frequent washing of hands to help prevent the spread of the virus. (PNA)
