Some 29 police personnel, including the Nueva Ecija’s top police official, exchanged promises with their respective spouses in a pre-Valentine day renewal of vows at the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office here on Friday.

Colonel Jaime Santos, acting Nueva Ecija police director, and his wife Architect Maria Luisa, joined personnel from various police stations and units in promising to love their partners in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do them part.

Santos said this was the first time a renewal of vows in time for Valentine’s celebration was held in the command.

They were treated with flowers and food, among others.

The mass and wedding rites were officiated by Rev. Fr. Marlou Cruz of Sta. Elena Parish in Gapan City and Pastor Jose Arnie San Felesis.

Like their commitment to serve and to protect, Santos said policemen should maintain a commitment to love and to protect their families.

“This renewal of vows for our men and women personnel with their spouses is a way to reaffirm their commitment to each other,” he said in an interview.

“Also to make a fresh start and to remind among the PNP ranks that seeking guidance and blessing of the Almighty, putting Him at the center of our lives is necessary as we perform our duty and tasks,” he added.

Following health protocols that the government imposed in fighting coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), only couples were allowed to get close to each other.

Everybody had to wear face masks, sanitize and keep a safe physical distance. (PNA)
