The provincial government of Dinagat Islands held the groundbreaking for three major infrastructure projects worth more than PHP31.3 million on Monday.
The projects include the PHP6.5 million construction of Phase 1 of the Gender and Development (GAD) building, the PHP8.9 million multi-purpose building for the Provincial Motor Pool, and the PHP15.9 million access road that would connect the old and new medical buildings at Dinagat District Hospital.
“The groundbreaking of these three major infrastructure projects marks another milestone in our continuing effort to strengthen the services of the provincial government and uplift the lives of our people,” said Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. in a message to the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday.
He added that the GAD building will provide a dedicated space to advance programs that promote inclusivity, empower women and protect vulnerable sectors.
“The multi-purpose building for the Provincial Motor Pool will enhance the efficiency of our transport and logistics services, ensuring that government resources are mobilized swiftly and responsibly,” he said.
In addition, he said the new road linking the old and new medical buildings at Dinagat District Hospital will directly benefit the residents by improving access to healthcare facilities and ensuring faster, safer, and more convenient patient care.
The construction of the GAD building is funded by the province’s five percent GAD Fund, while the allocation for the Motor Pool project is sourced from the provincial government’s 20 percent development fund.
Funding for the access road to the new health facility is also included in the province’s 20 percent development fund. (PNA)
