Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, keeps volunteerism alive amid the COVID-19 pandemic with its recently held Project Binhi, an event aimed at empowering individuals and families through urban farming. Project Binhi kicked off Chevron’s first-ever virtual Volunteer Week, which annually unites Chevron volunteers to aid less-privileged communities.

Chevron volunteers learned the importance of urban farming and keys to effective home gardening from partner HomeGrown Organics The virtual seminar shed light on how urban farming can be a practical way to begin a sustainable lifestyle, harness planting skills, economize, ensure access to clean and safe food, and foster physical and mental wellness.

To allow families to generate their own crops, Chevron also turned over gardening kits to the parents of selected students of Hulo Elementary School through the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong-Pasig-San Juan (RC ManPaSan)’s “Yaman sa Hardin Kontra COVID-19” project. The organization also equipped the beneficiaries with the basics of planting and will soon be organizing a school contest on vegetable cultivation to sustain the initiative.
