Filipino Gymnast, Carlos Edriel Yulo was only a few points away from securing the Philippines a medal in the artistic gymnastics men’s vault final of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Monday, August 2, 2021.

Yulo fell short of more or less 0.017 points in claiming the bronze medal in the game held in Ariake Gymnastics Center. The gymnast scored a total of 14.716 points which made him end up in 4th place behind Artur Davtyan of Armenia who secured the bronze medal garnering 14.733 points followed by silver medalist ROC’s Denis Abliazin with 14.783 points and gold medalist Shin Jeahwan from South Korea with 14.783 points.

Despite having the second-highest score in the event in his second attempt garnering 14.866 points, it wasn’t enough for the athlete to claim victory as he had a score of 14.566 in his first attempt.

He had a 0.1 penalty for his first attempt despite pulling off a triple twist in midair as he had a bad landing. He redeemed himself however in his second vault, pulling off a well-executed Dragulescu earning him the highest score for the second attempt.

ROC’s Nikita Nagornny tied with Yulo in having 14.716 points but the Filipino athlete was the one who took the rank for his score in his second attempt.

The rest of the finalists’ ranking and points are as followed: Adem Asil of Turkey in 6th place with 14.449 points, Ahmer Ondet of Turkey in 7th place with 14.066 points, and Caio Souza of Brazil in 8th place with 13.683 points.

Yulo shared on Facebook and Twitter his gratitude towards everybody who supported him, most especially his country, the Philippines.

Yulo added ending the Facebook post.
