The Office of Civil Defense in the Caraga Region (OCD-13) received an additional 540 boxes of food packs from OCD Zamboanga Peninsula on Friday.

In a statement, the OCD-13 said that military trucks carrying food packs from Pagadian City arrived at the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Operations Center in this city at noon.

“It is expected that the team from Zamboanga Peninsula will proceed to Dinagat Islands for the distribution of the food packs,” the OCD-13 said, noting that the typhoon-hit island province still needs sufficient relief assistance.

It also recognized the efforts of the city government of Pagadian and the various Army units from the Zamboanga Peninsula in delivering the food packs to the region.

The Army units include the 547th Engineer Battalion, the 54th Engineer Brigade, and the 53rd Infantry Battalion.

On Thursday, the OCD-13 also handed over 3,000 hygiene kits to the Dinagat Islands, which were distributed to the different areas recently hit by Typhoon Tino.

Meanwhile, in its latest update, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region reported that 62,911 family food packs (FFPs) have been distributed to various provinces in the region.

Of the total number of FFPs, 18,943 were released in Dinagat Islands, 33,919 in Surigao del Norte, 4,325 in Agusan del Norte, 4,159 in Surigao del Sur, 1,561 in Butuan City, and four in Agusan del Sur. (PNA)
