A total of 200 seedlings were planted in a tree planting activity conducted by Police Regional Office-Caraga (PRO-13) personnel in the different barangays here on Saturday.

In a statement, PRO-13 Director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. on Sunday said the tree planting activity is in line with the Enhanced National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the region (DENR-13).

“The activity is also a support to the greening program of Gen. Debold M. Sinas, the chief of the Philippine National Police,” Caramat said.

The tree planting activity was conducted here by PRO-13 and the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) in Barangays Bancasi, Bit-os, Tungao and Babag.

Tree species planted include narra, tanguile, and yakal.

The activity was also graced by Glenn Betco, the biodiversity focal person of Butuan City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Caramat said tree planting activities were also conducted simultaneously by the personnel of the different provincial and municipal police offices in Caraga Region.

The same activity was also conducted in the town of Buenavista and Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte, and in Bayugan City and the towns of San Francisco and San Luis in Agusan del Sur.

Police personnel in the towns of Dapa, Sta. Monica, Placer, Gen. Luna, Mainit, San Benito, Bacuag, Burgos, Malimono, Del Carmen, San Isidro, Tubod, Pilar, Sison and Surigao City in Surigao del Norte joined the tree planting activity.

In Surigao del Sur, tree planting activities were also conducted simultaneously by different police stations in the towns of Tago, Lanuza, Lianga, Marihatag, San Agustin, San Miguel, Cortes, Carrascal and in the cities of Tandag and Bislig.

In the province of Dinagat Islands, it was done in the municipalities of San Jose, Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo, Loreto, and Tubajon.

“Aside from this simultaneous tree planting activity region-wide, PNP Caraga will also intensify the campaign against illegal logging and will expedite efforts in filing cases against those who violated environmental laws,” Caramat said. (PNA)
