The local government unit (LGU) here initiated Monday selling rice at ceiling prices much lower than prescribed under Executive Order (EO) 39.

Jose Edgardo Uy, chair of the City Regulatory Compliance Board, said the initiative on minimal rice prices will be implemented from Sept. 11-15.

“This is in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry and the City Price Coordinating Council where Mayor (Rolando) Uy is the chairman,” he said.

Under EO 39, regular and well-milled rice are sold at a price ceiling of PHP41 and PHP45 per kilogram, respectively.

However, the LGU is selling well-milled local rice at a lower PHP43 per kilogram and premium rice at PHP45 per kilogram, compared to the prices of premium rice ranging from PHP46.

Buyers are limited to five 5 kilos daily for even distribution among consumers, Uy said. (PNA)
