The city government announced on Monday that it will implement a four-day work week in government offices.

In a statement, Mayor Rolando Uy said the implementation is a response to the Office of the President’s Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 114, which adopts energy conservation protocols amid fears of oil price hikes due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

“We assure that the delivery of services to the public will not be affected,” he said.

The new order will implement a work schedule in city government departments from Monday to Thursday, with employees clocking in at 8 a.m. and working until 7 p.m. until further notice.

Uy already issued an order on March 6, instructing all city government departments, including managed facilities and instrumentalities, to cut their operational costs for fuel and electricity.

Under MC 114, the Office of the President directed national government agencies and government-owned and controlled corporations to adopt energy conservation measures, including the implementation of the four-day work week.

The memorandum also encouraged the local government units, state universities and colleges, and other government instrumentalities to follow the protocols as well. (PNA)
